Best Delivery Burritos on the West Coast

New York has its bagels and buffalo wings, Chicago has its deep dish pizza, but if you’re looking for the best delivery burritos in the country, you need to head to the west coast, where the burrito might as well be classed as its own food group. The only question is, which city takes home the gold for the best delivery burrito in the country? From north to south, here are our top contenders for the best burrito for on the west coast.

Asada Burrito at Plaza Garibaldi, Seattle

plaza garibaldi

Mexican restaurant Plaza Garibaldi has several burrito options on their takeout menu, but our pick for the best burrito in Seattle has to be the Asada Burrito. It’s a giant tortilla stuffed with perfectly cooked carne asada with rice and beans, but what takes this delicious delivery burrito to the next level is the generous topping of homemade salsa verde and melted cheese. A close runner-up would be the house Super Burrito Garibaldi with Chile Colorado, smothered in Spanish sauce. Our official recommendation? Order one of each and share with a friend.

El Guero Burrito at El Guero, Portland

el guero burrito

This humble food truck might not look like much at first glance, but it serves up some of the most epic burritos we’ve eaten. With a whopping 21 burrito options on the takeout menu, it was a pretty tough choice, but the prize for best burrito in Portland has to go to the namesake El Guero. Filled to the brim with both chile relleno and grilled steak, it’s the ultimate delivery burrito for when you have to have it all. As an added bonus, El Guero restaurant offer a wide range of breakfast burritos which are also available for takeout, giving you the perfect excuse to order two burritos in one day. We won’t tell if you won’t.

Al Pastor at El Farolito, San Francisco

el farolito

El Farolito is known for having the best burritos in San Francisco, which is saying something considering the amount of competition (and hard-core foodies) in the city. Everything on the menu at this classic Mission establishment is delicious, but we always come back to the Al Pastor burrito. Don’t expect a beautiful presentation – this burrito comes haphazardly wrapped in tin foil and often falls apart while eating it – but you’ll hardly mind while devouring the tender chunks of pork, seasoned perfectly with a blend of pineapple, cumin and fresh chili. Add creamy pinto beans, tomato rice, huge slices of avocado and a generous helping of sour cream, and you’ve got yourself a faceful of burrito heaven.

Breakfast Burrito x 2 at El Potrillo Café in Los Angeles

With more taco trucks than there are corners to park them on, Los Angeles is a city with steep competition when it comes to Mexican food. It’s not all about the taco though – Los Angeles has mastered the art of the breakfast burrito. There are countless burrito places to choose from, but our personal favorite is El Potrillo Café for the simple reason that they offer a special on their takeout menu where you can choose any two breakfast burritos instead of one, so you can mix and match the different meats and homemade sauces that they have on offer. It goes back to the age-old adage: two burritos are always better than one.

California Burrito at Ortiz’s Taco Shop in San Diego

ortiz's taco shop

It is nearly impossible to choose the best delivery burrito in San Diego. You could order takeout from a different burrito place every day for a year and only scratch the surface of all the burrito restaurants in the city. Still, there has to be a winner, and our pick is Ortiz’s Taco Shop, where they have truly perfected the San Diego classic, the California Burrito. This thing of beauty comes filled with your choice of meat, plenty of cheese and sour cream, plus the magical addition of French fries. It’s a hybrid that will make you wonder why you ever ate burritos without French fries inside.
